Since we didn't answer the questions at the end of Preface during class, I wanted to answer them on here.
What were the qualities that enabled you to succeed or persevere- your behaviors, values or personal characteristics?
When I was a junior high student, I had just returned from living abroad for two years. Before living abroad, I went to an international school. Growing up in an international environment, I learned the importance of speaking up when I needed to. I entered a Japanese public school when I came back and the characteristics I had from my background helped me become class president. People used to call me "American" because I spoke up during meetings.
If the situation involved others, what was the nature of the teamwork or support that you were able to inspire? How did you work with others to achieve your goal?
There were other class presidents so I could not have done my work without their help but I think becoming really close with them and having a good relationship helped. I didn't just talk to them about our work but I talked to them about stuff that friends would share.
These are really hard questions and I don't know if I was able to answer them to the fullest but these questions made me think about qualities in a leader.
Hi Izumi!
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that you learned to speak up! It's not something that's tolerated in Japanese schools right? I seriously think there needs to be some sort of education reform.
Yes, I think it is good too that you learned to speak up, and it is interesting to me that this quality was valued enough in you junior high school to help you succeed.
